Job OverviewWe are seeking an Environmental Specialist to join our Infrastructure Environmental Management (IEM) team. The successful candidate will have a broad environmental background and possess an understanding of federal and BC provincial environmental legislation. You will work on fast‑paced, dynamic construction projects throughout Western Canada across various industry sectors, including roads, bridges, highways, rapid transit, marine and coastal development, pipelines, municipal infrastructure, tunneling, renewable energy, etc.
The position includes mentorship from experienced environmental professionals.
- Assist with project planning and implementation, including health and safety, resourcing, budgeting, scheduling, reporting, quality management, and day‑to‑day client liaison
- Provide technical assistance for acquiring environmental permits, licenses, and approvals from regulatory agencies
- Support project management tasks such as creating and monitoring budgets and schedules, developing sub‑consultant contracts, and monthly invoicing
- Prepare environmental compliance documents required for project approval and implementation, such as weekly reports, EMPs, EPPs, and environmental work plans
- Conduct field activities including construction monitoring, fish, wildlife and vegetation surveys, and baseline survey/assessments
- Work with project contractors and owners to identify and address environmental management and protection measures
- Collaborate with environmental specialists and technicians (internal and sub‑consultants) to assess potential project effects and define mitigation strategies
- Support business development opportunities, including writing proposals
- Minimum undergraduate degree in a relevant environmental discipline (fisheries, aquatics, ecology, environmental science/studies)
- 2–5 years of progressive field experience
- Experience interpreting and working with federal and provincial environmental regulatory and permitting requirements associated with infrastructure projects
- Direct experience as a construction environmental monitor, with exposure to erosion and sediment control, water quality, fish salvage, bird nesting surveys, and acoustic monitoring
- Experience operating in a dynamic consulting environment that requires flexibility and teamwork
- Experience in a range of environmental disciplines (air quality, noise, surface and groundwater quality, soils, erosion and sediment control, vegetation, fish, contaminated sites, archaeology, Indigenous communities, etc.) is an asset
- Valid Canadian driver’s licence for the past three years and ability to meet third‑party automobile insurance requirements
- Relevant professional certification (e.g., BIT/RPBio, RBTech, AAg, EPt) or ability to obtain one
- Access to a personal vehicle for client site travel
- Enthusiastic about field work in varying weather conditions
- Excellent problem‑solving skills for project delivery and compliance through creative and adaptable solutions
- Capable of working and communicating with multi‑disciplinary project teams
- Ability to obtain permits, licences, and approvals from local, provincial, and federal authorities and write weekly reports, EMPs, etc.
- Understanding of environmental legislation, regulations, and guidance documents
- Demonstrated aptitude for project management and coordination, with strong organisation and problem‑solving skills
- Willingness to work in the field, occasionally in remote locations
- Motivated self‑starter with positive attitude and respectful collaboration in stressful situations
- Ability to support business development, including proposals and marketing materials
- Desire to take on greater responsibility and authority with experience
- Adaptable team player who can independently take ownership of tasks and initiative
- Excellent communication (verbal & written) and time‑management skills
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Project, SharePoint, Excel)

Salary range: $64,000 – $80,000. Only candidates authorised to work in Canada will be considered. Proof of eligibility may be required prior to employment.
