Overview
Job Title: Electronics Hardware Engineer
Location: Burnaby, BC
Type: Full-time
We are seeking a hands-on Hardware Engineer to support manufacturing and product industrialization for battery management system (BMS), power conversion systems (PCS) and Energy Management System (EMS) in North America.
This role bridges design engineering and manufacturing execution, focusing on PCBA, high-level assembly (HLA), and production readiness. You will work closely with EMS partners, suppliers, and internal engineering teams to ensure robust, scalable, and high-quality hardware delivery.
Responsibilities Electronic Hardware Design- Develop electronic circuit component selection and design
- Create schematics and PCB layouts for applications
- Conduct design reviews to ensure compliance with performance and safety specifications
- Support transition from design to production and resolve manufacturing
- Drive Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) improvements
- Resolve manufacturing issues related to PCBAs, power modules, and system integration
- Provide on-site or remote support to North American EMS and contract manufacturers
- Work closely with EMS partners on:
- PCB fabrication and assembly processes (SMT, wave soldering, selective soldering)
- Process yield improvement and defect reduction
- 8D analysis
- Review and release manufacturing documentation:
- Assembly drawings and work instructions
- Support debugging of PCBA issues (e.g., solder defects, component failures, signal integrity)
- Support system-level integration of PCS units and production line layout/ setup
- Ensure mechanical-electrical interface alignment and assembly feasibility
- Troubleshoot integration issues (thermal, ESD, mechanical fit, wiring errors)
- Work with suppliers on component and subsystem qualification
- Support incoming quality and supplier issue resolution
- Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective actions for hardware failures
- Assist in defining inspection and test requirements for PCBAs and HLA
- Support development and execution of:
- Functional test procedures (FCT)
- System validation testing (efficiency, thermal, protection functions)
- Assist in bring-up, debugging, and validation of PCS hardware
- Support test fixture development and production test strategy
- Maintain and update:
- Manufacturing instructions and test procedures
- Support engineering change orders (ECO/ECN) and revision control
- Ensure proper traceability between design and production
- Work closely with:
- Supply chain and operations teams
- Act as key interface between engineering and manufacturing in North America
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- 3–8 years of experience in:
- PCBA manufacturing and debugging
- High-level assembly (HLA) or system integration
- Strong understanding of:
- PCB design and manufacturing processes
- Power electronics components (IGBT, MOSFET, SiC, drivers, magnetics) is an asset
- Experience working with EMS / contract manufacturers
- Hands-on debugging skills with lab equipment (oscilloscope, power analyzers, etc.)
- Willingness to travel within North America to support manufacturing
- Eligibility to register as E.I.T or P.Eng with EGBC
