Position OverviewKiewit Infrastructure Engineers has an immediate opening for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer with expertise in ports and marine projects. The role is part of the Design Engineering Services (DES) group, working on an interdisciplinary team to evaluate site conditions, perform engineering analyses, designs, and prepare estimates to support Kiewit’s design‑build initiatives and ongoing projects in the Ports and Marine markets.
LocationThe position is based in either Bellevue, WA or Burnaby, BC and may require travel to project offices and work sites. Flexible work arrangements are available.
Responsibilities- Support bid‑phase development of innovative and cost‑effective designs.
- Provide direction to the interdisciplinary engineering team and design subcontractors to develop competitive, cost‑effective designs.
- Assist in identifying key design risks during the bid phase and develop mitigation plans.
- Advance bid‑phase design concepts to IFC designs for successful pursuits.
- Oversee engineering services during construction and conduct field review during execution.
- Capture and share design lessons learned and innovations across districts.
- Support development of early and mid‑career geotechnical engineers.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geological Engineering (Graduate degree in Geotechnical Engineering is a plus).
- Experience as a qualified Geologist or Geomorphologist is an asset.
- Registered or immediately eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng) with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC).
- 15+ years of relevant geotechnical engineering experience, including 10+ years providing solutions in ports and marine‑related infrastructure projects.
- Strong academic knowledge of geotechnical engineering.
- Experience designing docking structures (combi‑walls, sheet pile walls, tangent walls, cellular structures), evaluating underwater slope stability, and designing pile‑supported structures.
- Professional experience with finite element software (PLAXIS 2‑D/3‑D or FLAC).
- Comprehension of relevant standards and codes.
- Experience leading and directing the work of others in a team setting.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Physical ability to access all points of a construction site in diverse climates and conditions.
- Willingness to travel to project sites.
- Design‑build and/or EPC experience preferred.
- Regular, reliable attendance.
- Work productively and meet deadlines.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and team members.
- Perform work safely and follow instructions, warning signs, equipment use, and policies.
- Work during normal operating hours; overtime and weekends may be required.
- Adaptability to various locations and conditions.
Base Salary: $175,000 / yr – $235,000 / yr (subject to variation based on education, experience, skillset, and/or location).
