Founded in 1995 by a group of experienced certification and testing experts, QAI is an independent third‑party testing, inspection, and certification organization that serves the building, technology, and construction industries with cost‑effective solutions through in‑house capabilities and an established world‑wide network of qualified affiliates.

We are looking for a Project Specialist to join our growing Building Products team and support future expansion.

Duties
  • Plan review drawings and documents for compliance with Building Codes and standards.
  • Familiarize with the Building Codes of Canada, National Plumbing Code, National Gas Code, and Canadian Electrical Code.
  • Write concise, detailed, accurate, and objective reports.
  • Travel throughout Canada and the USA to perform inspections at manufacturing sites.
  • Perform testing, witness testing, prepare reports, or review reports to evaluate building products against nationally recognized safety standards (CSA, UL, ASTM, etc.).
  • Review building codes to identify product requirements, write test plans, evaluate construction products to code, and produce concise evaluation reports.
  • Assist clients in determining applicable requirements for their products and required evaluations when a product is modified.
  • Assist in design and construction of testing jigs and test sample assemblies; document construction methods and results.
  • Perform product inspections and sampling at client sites, involving travel to Canada and the US.
  • Adhere to QAI quality system and administrative procedures.
  • Write and review concise, objective, and informative reports and documents.
  • Interact professionally with customers and colleagues.
  • Demonstrate willingness to work in an energetic team with a can‑do attitude.
  • Other duties as assigned by the manager or designee.
Qualifications – Minimum
  • Educational:
    Technical diploma or completed trades program from an accredited institution; relevant subjects include building plan reviewing, building science, plumbing/gas/electrical trades, material or mechanical engineering.
  • Experience:

    Prior experience with construction materials and practices is beneficial.
  • Technical skills:
    Advanced MS Word and Excel, proficiency with Email, Adobe Acrobat.
  • Good Laboratory Practice skills essential for testing products.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills in English;
    French communication valued.
Qualifications – Requirements
  • 2+ years of Project Specialist or related experience.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Engineer in Training (EIT) license required; ability to obtain P.Eng. within one year of hire for an EIT.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills in both French and English.
Key Technical Competence
  • Practical knowledge in relevant expertise.
  • Provide technical guidance on testing, inspection, and/or certification requirements.
  • Evaluate necessary requirements and develop timelines meeting client and QAI needs.
  • Meet expected timelines and prioritize tasks.
  • Multi‑task and coordinate activities across departments and locations.
  • Identify conformance to test, inspection, and/or certification criteria and communicate results.
Additional Information
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license.
  • Must hold or be able to obtain a valid passport and be able to travel to the US and international destinations.
Additional Assets
  • Forklift experience.
  • Level I first aid or higher.
