We are looking for a Communications Systems Engineer – Systems Networks to join our Rail & Transit team in Burnaby, Canada. You will be supporting major transit projects across Western Canada and beyond. What You’ll Do

In this role, you will contribute to the design and deployment of advanced transit communications and network systems that support command, control, and operational readiness across mass transit environments.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing communications systems, including:fibre-optic cabling systemscopper cabling systemsoperational IP-based voice and data networksanalog voice systems
  • Preparing technical and engineering documentation such as:design plansinterface control documentsspecificationsinstallation drawingsengineering analysestest plans and reports
  • Supporting procurement activities, including:technical specificationsvendor evaluationssupplier coordinationpost-award technical support
  • Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, including:fixed facilitiestrackworkPS&Dguidewayclientsarchitectscode consultantsauthorities having jurisdictionmajor suppliers
  • Supporting field installation, testing, troubleshooting, and construction activities
  • Assisting with commissioning and start-up of mass transit communications systems
  • Supporting customer training and preparing operations and maintenance manuals
  • Collaborating with project engineering and test teams to ensure systems engineering alignment throughout the project lifecycle
  • Traveling as needed to support projects and proposals
  • What We’re Looking For

    We’re looking for a technically strong, collaborative engineer who can work effectively across disciplines and communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

    Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or an equivalent technical/scientific discipline degree related to area of specialty (

    NOTE:

    Newly-hired PhD graduates are typically hired into this level.)
  • 5+ years of related professional and experience in at least two of the following:

    IP networksphone systemsfiber optic distribution systemsstructured cabling solutions
  • P.Eng designation
    , or the ability to obtain professional accreditation in British Columbia
  • Understanding of formal systems engineering processes and methodologies
  • Familiarity with:

    RAM principlessystems safety principles
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment and independently when needed
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with:

    Microsoft Word Excel Visio
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in both a design office environment and hands-on field or installation support roles
