Match Box Consulting Group is seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer – Transmission Stations to support one of British Columbia's largest utility providers. This is an exciting opportunity for a senior engineering professional with extensive utility and substation experience to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams delivering complex transmission station projects.
The successful candidate will provide project engineering leadership while supporting the planning, design, coordination, and delivery of electrical transmission infrastructure projects across British Columbia.
Responsibilities- Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams delivering transmission station projects.
- Provide project engineering leadership throughout the project lifecycle, from planning and design through construction and commissioning.
- Develop safe engineering solutions for complex electrical utility projects.
- Coordinate engineering activities across protection, control, telecommunications, civil, structural, and mechanical disciplines.
- Support project managers by managing engineering scope, schedules, budgets, risks, and technical deliverables.
- Resolve complex engineering challenges and provide sound technical recommendations.
- Review engineering designs, specifications, reports, and technical documentation.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, consultants, contractors, and delivery partners to ensure successful project execution.
- Conduct field and site visits to support project delivery and resolve technical issues.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, engineering standards, and technical best practices.
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Civil, Structural, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered with Engineers & Geoscientists BC.
- Permit to Practice (or access to a firm's Permit to Practice).
- Minimum 8 years of utility engineering experience, including significant experience on electrical substation projects.
- Minimum 4 years of project engineering or project management experience, either formally or as a lead engineer or work package manager.
- PMP Certification is required.
- Strong experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Extensive knowledge of protection, control, and telecommunications systems.
- Strong understanding of transmission systems, substation design, and utility operations.
- Excellent communication, relationship management, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to present technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience with transmission line design.
- Previous experience working on large utility infrastructure projects.
- Experience supporting major capital projects within the utility sector.
- Hybrid position based in Burnaby, BC.
- Required to work onsite three days per week during the first three months, with the potential to reduce to two days per week thereafter.
- Travel throughout British Columbia for field and site visits approximately once every two months, typically for one to two days.
- Must be comfortable traveling to remote locations, including travel via small aircraft and regional airports when required.
