Match Box Consulting Group is seeking an experienced Protection & Control Engineer to support one of British Columbia's largest utility providers. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the design, modernization, and maintenance of generation protection and control systems that support critical power generation infrastructure across the province.
Working as part of the Generation Stations team, you'll play a key role in delivering engineering solutions for generating units and auxiliary systems while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams throughout the project lifecycle.
Responsibilities- Design protection and control (P&C) systems for generating stations and associated auxiliary equipment.
- Prepare engineering deliverables including design calculations, specifications, reports, estimates, hazard logs, and test plans.
- Develop detailed design packages including single-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, equipment layouts, and material lists.
- Perform engineering reviews and provide technical guidance on designs prepared by internal and external teams.
- Support field investigations, construction activities, commissioning, and equipment installation.
- Prepare commissioning test plans and provide technical support during commissioning.
- Complete condition assessments and develop engineering recommendations for existing equipment and systems.
- Coordinate with project managers, construction teams, operations, and other engineering disciplines to deliver successful projects.
- Provide technical mentorship and engineering expertise throughout project execution.
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC).
- Valid EGBC Permit to Practice.
- Minimum 8 years of relevant engineering experience.
- Strong experience designing Protection & Control systems for electrical utility generating stations.
- Experience preparing signed and sealed engineering deliverables.
- Strong understanding of engineering design practices, industry standards, and quality management processes.
- Familiarity with CAD systems, engineering design software, and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence with the ability to travel to project sites as required.
- Experience with in the electrical utility industry.
- Experience supporting construction, commissioning, and field engineering activities.
- Experience performing condition assessments and developing engineering recommendations for power generation facilities.
- Experience reviewing consultant and contractor engineering deliverables.
- Hybrid work arrangement based in Burnaby.
- Opportunity to work on critical generation infrastructure projects supporting power generation across British Columbia.
- Occasional travel to generating stations and project sites as required.
