The Engineer is a senior-level professional engineer or geoscientist who brings technical leadership, sound judgment, and innovative thinking to complex engineering projects. In this role, you will lead the development of safe, high-quality engineering solutions while influencing design standards, mentoring peers, and contributing to the successful delivery of critical infrastructure projects—on time and on budget.
What you’ll be doing- Lead the development of safe, practical, and innovative engineering solutions for medium to high-complexity projects, applying independent judgment to design development, technical analysis, and problem resolution.
- Take ownership of engineering deliverables by interpreting specifications, resolving design and field challenges, and ensuring solutions meet safety, quality, cost, and schedule objectives.
- Drive project success by contributing to planning and estimating, reviewing contractor progress, recommending payments, preparing progress reports, and coordinating multi-disciplinary work activities.
- Tackle complex and non-routine engineering problems through independent studies and detailed technical analysis, recommending designs that support reliable operations and successful project outcomes.
- Play a key role in advancing engineering practice by contributing to technical standards, design methodologies, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to other engineers and geoscientists, supporting capability development across the organization.
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders by defining scopes of work, establishing design criteria, reviewing and approving technical documentation, and reporting on progress against agreed objectives.
- Make high-impact technical decisions, including establishing design bases, criteria, and concepts, and supporting the effective use of engineering and geoscience resources on major projects.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) registration with Engineers & Geoscientists BC, or eligibility for registration through another recognized jurisdiction.
- Minimum 10 years of substation engineering experience , including significant experience in the electrical utility sector.
- A degree in a relevant engineering discipline (electrical, civil, or structural).
- At least 4 years of experience leading multi-disciplinary design teams , with exposure to protection, control, and telecommunications systems.
- Strong working knowledge of CAD systems, drawing standards, and industry-standard design and analysis software.
- Solid understanding of project management principles and how engineering integrates with schedule, cost, and risk.
- Intermediate proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Clear and effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
- Strong electric utility background with the ability to think from a transmission system and operations perspective.
- Experience working on large, complex, multi-discipline infrastructure projects.
- Working knowledge of transmission line design.
- Comfort working within professional practice and quality management frameworks, including digital sign and seal technologies.
