appraises, classifies, describes, accessions and provides historic documentation and public records on archival materials; assesses the historical importance of materials to determine suitability for the archives; ensures that archive materials are properly maintained, stored and handled. The successful candidate coordinates in the transfer of records to the archives and liaises with donors; provides assistance, access and reference services to municipal staff, researchers, students and members of the public;
advises users of other reference sources and referrals as required; promotes interest and awareness of the municipal archives; researches and plans exhibits and displays of historical interest; organizes lectures and public information sessions; presents reports and recommendations to a variety of contacts such as Committees, Council, City Leadership Team. An incumbent prepares correspondence, reports, procedures manuals and promotional materials; develops and updates reference tools such as finding aids, subject indexes and administrative histories;
compiles budget recommendations and monitors expenditures. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications Qualifications include a Master’s Degree in Archival Science plus sound related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of modern archival techniques and collections, standards and procedures. Working knowledge of historical research techniques; other archival and community resources. Ability to develop, organize and administer archival operations and recommend policies and procedures, retention and disposal of archival records;
plan, assign and supervise the work of subordinates engaged in related work and, as required, to direct the work of volunteers; maintain archival retrieval systems using accepted standards; establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts; prepare a variety of written materials related to the work; work with minimal supervision; lift and/or move archival materials. A valid Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia is required.
