Detailed Overview

The Clinical Instructor/Educator, Radiological Technology practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice as well as utilizing a client and family centered care model and the vision and values of the department within Fraser Health (FH).

The Clinical Instructor/Educator works in a team-based environment and is responsible for coordinating training activities for Radiological Technology students/staff within Medical Imaging. Duties include instructing students/staff in technical and diagnostic procedures, implementing an evaluation system to evaluate student progress during clinical training, acting as a liaison between academic institutions and departmental personnel, maintaining various training records and manuals, and performing technical functions when required.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinates student/staff training activities within Medical Imaging by assigning rotation through various areas, determining goals and objectives within each rotation, developing checklists for training tasks and liaising with designated staff to discuss training requirements/schedules to ensure proper exposure to all clinical areas in accordance with the requirements of the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists’ (CAMRT) record of clinical experience. Prepares and maintains rotation schedules utilizing word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Instructs students/staff in technical and diagnostic procedures related to Medical Imaging and Image Guided Therapy by performing duties such as coordinating lecture series, identifying topics in accordance with curriculum guidelines, developing presentations, providing didactic practicum course content material and/or arranging for guest lecturers, demonstrating procedures in classroom or at designated work station, observing students/staff while performing techniques and providing feedback to ensure techniques are performed according to departmental standards and radiation safety procedures are followed.
  • Evaluates student/staff progress during clinical training by implementing an evaluation system, setting up evaluation criteria for specified tasks, determining successful completion of tasks, and providing feedback to ensure training goals and objectives are met. Assists students/staff to meet evaluation standards by providing counseling and guidance in matters related to education and study skills, and developing remedial training programs. Evaluates student didactic exams.

    Maintains student/staff records including evaluations/progress reports, examination results, grade assessments, clinical competency tests and attendance information.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of orientation programs by liaising with Operations Director/Manager, Site Coordinator and Supervisor to determine requirements and recommendations, creating orientation checklists for new students/staff, compiling information packages to ensure students are familiar with departmental policies, procedures and standards of practice and distributing them as appropriate. Provides orientation for new students/staff by performing duties such as discussing expectations to ensure students are familiar with departmental policies and procedures and radiation safety standards.
