Job Summary

Our Public Health team is looking for Speech-Language Pathologists who are excited to work with an amazing team of forward-thinking supportive clinicians, leaders, and staff. If you are interested in providing services to children (birth to kindergarten eligibility) and families in your community, this position is for you.

Responsibilities
  • Performs screening, assessment, diagnosis, intervention, and follow-up for clients with hearing, communication and related disorders in accordance with Speech/Language Pathology standards and scope of clinical practice; plans, implements, and records client treatment programs and progress in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team; provides guidance to Speech Language Assistants and education to patients’ family, friends, and caregivers; participates in team conferences as required;

    participates in early intervention activities and prevention of communication and related disorders; maintains knowledge of current developments in Speech/Language Pathology.
  • Plans, implements, and records client treatment programs in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team and client/family goals; communicates progress by noting changes in client files and ensuring pertinent information is included in the client file.
  • Maintains related records, documentation, and statistics; prepares reports in accordance with established standards and procedures.
  • Advises members of the interdisciplinary team of significant changes in client’s communicative status and/or any difficulties encountered in administering treatment, discharge planning, or follow-up.
  • Provides guidance to Speech Language Assistants by ensuring standards are met and that staff are familiar with program policies through orientation and regular communication.
  • Provides information regarding a client’s communication disorder and treatment program to family, friends, and caregivers; assists in the interpretation of the disorder and the treatment plan for the client and their support network.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary/interdepartmental program meetings, committees, case conferences, and program planning; contributes input to goals and objectives of Speech/Language Pathology Services.
  • Participates in approved research activities as requested and ensures practices are aligned with approved initiatives.
  • Maintains knowledge of current developments in Speech/Language Pathology by reviewing literature, consulting with clinical experts, evaluating practice, attending professional development activities, and contributing to improvement of care according to professional standards.
  • May participate in graduate level student supervision as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and Experience

Graduation from an approved school of Speech Language Pathology. One (1) year recent related clinical experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Current active registration with the College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of BC. Eligible for membership in the Canadian and/or BC Association of Speech/Language Pathology and Audiology (CASLPA and/or BCSLPA).

Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle for work-related purposes.
