Lookout Housing and Health Society provides housing and a range of support services to adults with low or no income who have few or no housing or support options. We place minimal barriers between residents and our services, helping them meet basic needs and achieve greater independence.
Salary
$33.49 - $35.31 per hour, depending on seniority as per the Collective Agreement.
The Tenant Support Worker (TSW) reports to the Site Manager and works in accordance with Lookout’s mission, philosophy and Code of Ethics. The TSW works with residents to provide assistance, support, education, and skills training, helping tenants maintain and develop greater independence with the goal of a healthier living arrangement.
Job Duties- Participate in tenant intakes, provide support services and assessments.
- Identify challenges for tenants, develop service plans, provide crisis intervention, and administer finances and medication.
- Ensure that basic needs are met by working closely with individuals on a long‑term, ongoing basis.
- Complete required paperwork and maintain statistical and evaluative data.
- Assist volunteers and practicum students on site.
- Occasional external work may occur; the use of an automobile may be required.
- Remain alert and attentive during working hours; sleeping during shifts is not permitted.
- Comply with and contribute to all aspects of the health and safety program.
- Diploma in Community Social Service.
- Class 5 BC Drivers’ Licence (only if required).
- OFA 1 First Aid Certificate.
- Food Safe Certificate (only if required).
- Recent related experience of two (2) years or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience, or other reasonable qualifications.
- Minimum of two (2) years sobriety if having alcohol and/or drug problems.
- Criminal Record Clearance – Vulnerable Sector.
- Probationary period of 488 hours with midpoint and endpoint reviews.
- Knowledge/familiarity with resources such as Mental Health, Income Assistance, Harm Reduction, Trauma‑Informed Practice, and Addictions Support organizations.
- Ability to carry out the duties of the position and work independently or cooperatively.
- Ability to operate related equipment and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Organizational and prioritization skills.
- Observation and recognition of changes in guests.
- Establish and maintain rapport with guests.
- Home management skills and ability to instruct.
- Suitability to work with disadvantaged and challenging adults in a diverse environment.
- Problem analysis and resolution, conflict resolution, crisis intervention, and advocacy skills.
Shifts
7 days a week, day, afternoon/evening, and overnight shifts. Shifts are 7.5 hours in length, with days of rest consecutive. Schedule may change with two weeks’ notice.
Night Premium
Given to staff working 50% or more of their shift between 00:00–08:00.
Probationary/Qualifying Period
488 hours with midpoint and endpoint reviews.
Closing Date
at 5:00 pm.
