Kiewit is seeking a proactive and driven HR Specialist to support our Western Canada District operations. This role is ideal for someone passionate about aligning HR strategies with business goals in a fast-paced, project-based environment. You’ll serve as a key partner to project teams, helping to shape workforce planning, employee engagement, and compliance across iconic infrastructure and energy projects.

District Overview

Kiewit’s Western Canada District is headquartered in Burnaby, British Columbia. We build heavy civil projects including earth moving, transportation, roadways, bridges, water resources, and underground utilities. Our current projects are spread across the entire West Coast of Canada including local and rotation projects within British Columbia, Alberta, Yukon, and the NWT. The position is based in our Burnaby District office but frequent travel to sites is required.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with project leadership to implement HR strategies that support operational goals
  • Provide guidance on HR policies, procedures, and compliance across multiple project sites
  • Support onboarding and workforce planning initiatives
  • Analyze HR metrics and trends to recommend improvements in processes and programs
  • Serve as a change agent, promoting organizational effectiveness and employee engagement
  • Assist in conflict resolution, performance management, and employee relations
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
  • 3+ years of HR experience, preferably in construction, engineering, or industrial sectors
  • Strong understanding of Canadian labor laws and HR compliance
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to travel and relocate based on project needs
  • Experience with HRIS systems and data analysis tools is a plus
  • Other Requirements:

  • Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment
  • Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
  • Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.
  • May work at various different locations and conditions may vary
  • Compensation: 74,000 - 90,000
  • Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location and may be higher or lower than this range.
