Job Description
The Sample Preparation Technician is responsible for proper preparation of mineral samples for analysis in accordance with all applicable standards and company procedures by performing the following duties.
- Unpack, sort, transfer and dry samples
- Execute and perform crushing, pulverizing and screening of geological materials as per SGS’ Standard Operating Procedures.
- Conduct routine quality checks including particle size analysis, dust loss and report data immediately to the Supervisor or group leader if results are outside of acceptability parameters.
- Ensure that work order documentation is complete in every respect and QC results are entered into SLIMS as necessary.
- Maintain a clean and organized workbench area ensuring spills are immediately cleaned; disposal is according to laboratory procedures including any special requirements for handling international soils.
- Ensure that equipment is maintained in good order, alerting the Supervisor or group leader to any damaged or defective equipment or any equipment requiring adjustment such as pulverizing time or crusher gapping.
- Keep all records and notebooks in good order including work order and equipment maintenance logs.
- May be asked to work in other areas of the Geochemistry laboratory sections when required.
- High School or equivalent (Required)
- No experience needed
- 0-1 year working in industrial/lab/field setting with experience following strict safety standards (Preferred)
- Position requires occasional overtime.
- Reasoning Skills/Abilities:
Intermediate level required, uses logical and practical approach to solve problems - Ability to effectively communicate (in writing or verbally), presenting information individually or in small group situations to internal or external customers
- Ability to follow directions ensuring the end results are accurate and completed within the required timeframe
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to work independently and under moderate supervision
- Team player attitude, customer care focus
Salary: starting at $20.00 per hour.
