Overview

Nurse Practitioner – Cardiac Locum – Residency Opportunity at Fraser Health Authority.

Salary: CAD $59.56 - $85.62 / hour. This is a 1.0 FTE Nurse Practitioner position in Royal Columbian Hospital (New Westminster, BC) within the Cardiac locum team. The role emphasizes a collaborative, co-managed, team-based approach to patient care in the Acute Care Cardiac program, including Electrophysiology and Cardiac consults.

The residency program offers a unique postgraduate experience to elevate skills and support the transition into independent practice.

Responsibilities
  • Diagnoses and treats patients within the Nurse Practitioner scope; writes orders for treatment and medications; provides first-line care in emergencies where appropriate.
  • Monitors ongoing care, orders and interprets diagnostic investigations, and plans treatment based on results.
  • Establishes priorities for health management; provides follow-up care and communicates findings and priorities to patients, families, and other care providers.
  • Collaborates with physicians and other health professionals to assess and diagnose patient status; develops and implements treatment plans; may admit and discharge patients according to policy.
  • Prescribes medications within regulatory standards and organizational policies.
  • Supervises and educates other nursing and health care personnel; participates in hiring and performance evaluation as appropriate.
  • Participates in research to advance patient care and nursing practice; contributes to population health initiatives.
  • Maintains a population health focus with screening and health promotion activities for at-risk populations.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary education, mentoring, and knowledge exchange within clinical, classroom, and community settings; fosters health care partnerships.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates policies and procedures related to nursing, interdisciplinary care, and health system practices.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications

Education and Experience
Current practicing registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Recent relevant clinical nursing experience.

Residency Details

Residency opportunities include rotations in Cardiology, Electrophysiology, Interventional Cardiology, Atrial Fibrillation Clinic, and other FH region heart function clinics. In-house residency rotations support 12-lead ECG interpretation, point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), suturing, and x-ray interpretation, with a New Graduate NP Community of Practice to support transition to independent practice.
