Responsibilities
  • Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document practical nursing care for patients undergoing oscopy, minor surgical procedures, wound care and other outpatient procedures/consultations during the pre, intra and post‑procedure/consultation periods.
  • Assist with admission of patients to procedure/consultation rooms and perform intra‑procedure/consultation duties for patients undergoing oscopy, in accordance with established standards and protocols.
  • Perform practical nursing duties during the pre, intra and post‑procedure/consultation periods.
  • Observe and monitor the patient's conditions during the procedures/consultations to ensure their safety and comfort; provide patient condition information and feedback to the supervisor and/or physician.
  • Document the observations into the patient's record including treatment and other patient care information during the pre, intra and post‑procedure/consultation periods.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement and program evaluation activities, education sessions, team conferences, meetings and committees as assigned.
  • Assist with orientation of new staff, students and other members of the health care team by performing duties such as demonstrating work procedures and general department procedures.
  • Perform related clerical duties such as answering the telephone, taking and relaying messages and assisting in maintaining standardized records.
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned.
Education and Experience

Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). One (1) year recent relevant clinical experience in minor surgical procedures or other outpatient procedures and completion of relevant course work and/or certification, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Current basic cardiac life support certification.

  • Ability to collaborate with and promote cooperation among members of the interprofessional care team.
  • Ability to use factual information, prior learning and basic principles and procedures to support nursing decisions and actions with relevant research‑based evidence/evidence‑informed practice.
  • Ability to operate related equipment including applicable software applications.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
