In accordance with British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice and the Mission and Values of Fraser Health, the Registered Nurse, Perinatal provides direct patient care to childbearing patients and their families during the intra, postpartum and high risk antepartum periods. Responsibilities include assessing, planning, providing, and evaluating nursing care to patients in a perinatal clinical unit.
Responsibilities- Graduate from an approved School of Nursing.
- Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the BCCNM.
- One year recent related clinical perinatal nursing experience in the designated area, with completion of postgraduate basic coursework and/or certification in perinatal nursing, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Current Basic Rescuer (Level
C) and Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) certificates.
- Complete initial and ongoing patient assessment and apply maternal/fetal/newborn theory to provide appropriate interventions.
- Recognize acuity changes.
- Use evidence‑based practice to support nursing decisions.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, public, medical staff, and inter‑professional team.
- Promote person‑centered care, empathy, cultural sensitivity, and patient advocacy.
- Integrate and evaluate data from multiple sources to problem‑solve.
- Work independently and collaborate to promote teamwork.
- Teach and instruct patients and families on health care and well‑being topics.
- Organize and prioritize work in changing environments.
- Promote and manage change.
- Operate related equipment and computer applications.
- Possess physical ability to perform job duties.
