Job Summary

The Youth Forensic Psychiatric Services (YFPS) team is an established group committed to providing essential mental health services to young people involved in the justice system. This multi-disciplinary team works closely with probation services, community agencies and contracted service providers, as well as Youth Custody Services staff to deliver Court-ordered assessments.

The Role

Supervise a team of Health Care Workers, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, and Registered Nurses. Train and orient new hires, and direct the delivery of comprehensive nursing services to your staff. Work collaboratively with YFPS partners such as Youth Justice, Youth Custody Services, and the Maples Adolescent Treatment Centre. Support the well‑being of both the staff you supervise and the delivery of critical care to vulnerable youth.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from a recognized university and licensed to practice and registered or eligible to register under the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

    Note:

    If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES) and provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting.
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Current CPR certification.

    Note:

    As a condition of employment, must provide First Aid coverage and medical support for staff, as required under Work Safe BC guidelines.

Minimum of 2 years related nursing experience (e.g., mental health nurse experience, psychiatric nurse experience, etc.).

  • Willingness to work a combination of day, evening, and/or night shifts.
  • Willingness to work in close proximity to potentially aggressive, violent or otherwise unpredictable youth.
