Registered Nurse (RN)/Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) New Graduate Opportunities
PHSA’s New Grad Program provides new RN/RPN graduates with the opportunity to use the nursing practice skills acquired in education and training and to work in a nursing specialty across our province. Opportunities are available in pediatrics, child & youth mental health, perinatal, oncology, or adult mental health nursing.
Program Details- All new graduates are placed into a regular or temporary position, with a minimum of 0.7 part‑time equivalency for the first six months.
- Typical shifts: days, evenings, and nights (8‑ or 12‑hour). Shift length varies by unit or department.
- Hourly wage: $40.21 – $57.78.

- Graduated from a nursing program within the last 18 months.
- Provisional or practice‑level registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Current adult CPR and/or newborn resuscitation certification.
- BCIT Neonatal Theory 1 course is required for certain positions; preferred for others.
- BCIT Perinatal Theory 1 course or equivalent (required for postpartum/ birthing units).
- Current CPR Training, Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Level 1 (for selected units).
- Current CPR Level C (for BC Cancer units).
- Commitment to Indigenous cultural safety and reconciliation, including knowledge of the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s calls to action and BC’s Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.
- Plan and direct care in accordance with the care plan.
- Provide nursing assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation for patients.
- Collect and document patient health information.
- Consult with the interdisciplinary team and other health professionals.
- Support patients with psychosocial and life skills.
- Administer medications, monitor responses, and consult physicians as required.
- Refer patients to specialized healthcare professionals and community programs.
- Maintain accurate electronic and paper records per established policies.
