In accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice and the Mission and Values of Fraser Health, and working collaboratively with the inter‑professional care team in the provision of person‑centered care, the Registered Nurse provides direct patient care by assessing, planning, providing, and evaluating nursing care to patients in an acute medical unit.

• Assesses patients and collects information from a variety of sources, making a nursing diagnosis and determining appropriate interventions.
• Collaborates with patients and families/caregivers to develop care plans and encourages family participation.
• Participates in care and discharge planning, ensuring effective implementation and collaboration with the inter‑professional team.
• Coordinates nursing care, sets priorities, delegates tasks, and makes referrals according to established protocols.
• Works with the inter‑professional team to resolve issues and adjust care plans as needed.
• Teaches patients and families about illness prevention, health restoration, and maintenance.
• Initiates referrals to appropriate health care and community agencies in collaboration with the team.
• Documents assessments, diagnoses, interventions, responses, outcomes, and referrals in line with Fraser Health procedures.
• Participates in nursing committees, care conferences, and councils as assigned.
• Engages in research, quality improvement, and educational programs, maintaining clinical competence.
• Precepts or mentors new nursing staff and students, orienting and providing feedback.
• Provides feedback to management regarding patient care effectiveness, policies, and equipment.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Completion of applicable post‑graduate coursework or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS).

• Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessment and provide nursing care through appropriate interventions.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, the public, medical staff, and the inter‑professional team via verbal, written and electronic means.
• Promote person‑centered care, demonstrating empathy and advocacy for patients and families.
• Integrate data from multiple sources to problem‑solve effectively.
• Educate patients and families on essential health topics.
• Organize and prioritize work efficiently.
• Collaborate and promote teamwork among inter‑professional members.
• Use factual information, prior learning, and evidence‑based practice to support nursing decisions.
• Operate related equipment and computer applications.
• Maintain the physical ability to perform job duties.
