Detailed Overview
In accordance with British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives standards and Fraser Health mission and values, the RN collaborates with the inter‑professional care team to provide and coordinate pre‑ and post‑operative nursing care, assist with surgical and interventional procedures, and deliver discharge teaching for adults and children.

Responsibilities

Assess patients and collect data from observation, communication, data review, and physical assessment to form a nursing diagnosis and determine nursing interventions.

Monitor patient acuity for significant changes and intervene to manage care as necessary.

Assist physicians with therapeutic interventions, patient positioning, and using procedure‑related equipment, and maintain all procedural equipment.

Collaborate with patients and families to develop care plans, encourage family participation, and establish therapeutic relationships.

Participate in admission care and discharge planning, ensuring effective implementation of care plans and communication with the Patient Care Coordinator.

Coordinate nursing care, prioritize tasks, delegate to support staff, and refer to the inter‑professional team per protocols.

Collaborate with team members across various disciplines to resolve issues and adjust care plans as needed.

Teach patients and families about illness prevention, health restoration, and maintenance to support health outcomes.

Discuss referral information with patients and families, collaborating with the team to initiate appropriate referrals.

Document assessments, diagnoses, observations, interventions, and referrals per practice standards.

Participate in nursing committees, care conferences, and councils as assigned.

Engage in research and quality improvement activities to identify and recommend changes to practice.

Attend in‑services and educational programs, identifying personal learning goals and maintaining current clinical competence.

Act as a preceptor or mentor to new staff and students, sharing information and participating in orientation.

Provide feedback on patient care programs, policies, and equipment to management.

Perform other related duties as required.

Education and Experience
Graduation from an approved School of Nursing and current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives. Two (2) years recent relevant clinical experience in the designated area, with completion of postgraduate coursework or certification applicable to the area, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
