QAI is currently seeking an experienced Technician II to support the Electrical Product Safety Department at our Burnaby, BC location. This role involves evaluation, testing, report writing and performing inspections on various types of electrical products. You are someone who is very motivated and likes to be hands on and interested in working in a fast-paced product testing laboratory with the ability to read and comprehend test standards and specifications for performing the testing.
You have electrical testing experience in the product testing industry and be willing to cross train in other areas of the business.
Flexibility in work schedule and working overtime, if needed, is ideal.
DUTIES:- Set up and perform electrical safety tests on products and components by following written test procedures and applicable electrical safety standards (CSA, UL, IEC, etc.). Read, interpret, and apply electrical safety standards and resolve technical issues.
- Liaise with account managers and clients, leading discussions to ensure testing, reporting, and certification meet expectations.
- Record and document test results for electrical safety tests, including but not limited to leakage current, dielectric strength, creepage and clearance, temperature and rating, and environmental and humidity testing, and assist with preparation of test reports. Maintain lab equipment, perform calibration checks, construct test fixtures, and demonstrate equipment operation.
- Participate in internal/external audits under mentorship and assist with corrective actions.
- Manage multiple projects with conflicting timelines while upholding QAI Quality Management Systems, safety, and core values.
- Other duties as assigned by the manager or his designee.
- Have minimum 3 years of experience working as a technician or equivalent.
- Possess a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, trade school diploma or an electrical technologist diploma, or equivalent.
- Possess the ability to read, understand, and apply technical standards towards product testing programs.
- Possess “Good Laboratory Practice” skills essential for testing products.
- Possess strong analytical skills.
- Possess good interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
- Possess superior MS Word and Excel skills and be proficient with email correspondence.
- Accepts instruction and follows it for testing outside of their general scope of knowledge and experience.
- Able to grasp general concepts in a field of testing and apply it to specific test methods.
- Able to perform testing and as knowledge grows in a specific field of testing graduates to more complex testing methods.
- Seeks assistance and knowledge from more senior personnel when a specific requirement is outside of their general scope of knowledge.
- Good working knowledge of the test methods in their specific discipline.
- Able to multi-task with some degree of efficiency and accuracy.
- Maintains a sense of ownership and responsibility for projects assigned to them.
