Victim Services Caseworker
Overview
This is specialized work in providing direct support services to victims and witnesses of crime and trauma. Victim Services Caseworkers respond to police, community and self‑initiated referrals to assist victims and witnesses of crime and trauma. Our team offers crisis intervention, emotional support, practical assistance and community/program referrals for victims, witnesses and family members. This position responds to in‑office and after‑hours RCMP call‑out requests to assist police in supporting victims/witnesses/families in a wide range of incidents including sudden deaths, fatal or serious vehicle crashes, next‑of‑kin notifications, robberies, domestic violence, and physical assaults.
Responsibilities- Provide updates to clients on the progress of police investigations in consultation with the investigating officer.
- Assist clients in completing applications and victim impact statements.
- Prepare and maintain a variety of records and correspondence, court updates, and client files documenting services provided.
- Perform related work as required.
- Completion of the 12th school grade, preferably supplemented by courses in social services, victim services, trauma intervention or criminology, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Considerable experience working with victims of crime and trauma and knowledge of regulations governing programs such as the criminal justice system and social services.
- Proficiency in crisis intervention techniques, follow‑up support practices, and terminology used in documenting client contacts.
- Sound knowledge of community resources and working knowledge of court and police procedures.
- Ability to provide direct services to victims and witnesses, often under stressful circumstances.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to maintain organized records and establish effective working relationships with police and internal and external contacts.
- Valid Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia and ability to obtain and maintain an RCMP Enhanced Security Clearance.
$37.09 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits

Hours of WorkThis is an auxiliary position; hours and shifts are based on operational requirements and do not provide guaranteed hours of work. Typical office shifts may range from 9:00‑21:00. Typical on‑call shifts may range from 21:00‑7:00 on weekdays, and 18:00‑8:00 on Friday, weekends, and statutory holidays.
