Position Summary: Carr's Place is offering a dynamic and meaningful summer student opportunity for individuals passionate about social justice, community service, and supporting vulnerable populations. The mission is to provide compassionate care and connect individuals experiencing homelessness and addiction with essential resources and support services. Through this role, students will gain practical skills and a deeper understanding of the systemic challenges facing marginalized populations.
This is an excellent opportunity for those seeking to build a foundation in social work, public health, or community-based services, while making a lasting and positive impact.
Salary: $19.85 per hour
Duration: Scheduled from Monday to Friday for an 8‑week period.
Responsibilities- Provide assistance, support and basic skill training to clients while encouraging independence, self‑responsibility and healthiest lifestyle
- Assist support workers with the intake of clients, provide services of support, assessment, liaising, isolate problems, develop service plans, crisis intervention, and generally ensure that basic needs are met
- Assist with paperwork and statistical data
- Other duties as required
- Enrollment in a Social Work, Mental Health or Criminal Justice program is preferred
- Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention Skills Training is an asset
- Must pass a satisfactory Criminal Record Check
- Demonstrated communication skills both verbal and written
- Ability to manage high workload with multiple priorities
- Excellent planning and organizational skills
