Position SummaryThis position offers hands‑on experience in frontline community work, including case planning, harm reduction strategies, basic wound care, and facilitating therapeutic and recreational activities such as art sessions, bingo, and community cleanups. Students will also be involved in special projects addressing critical issues such as extreme weather response, the opioid crisis, and community outreach.
Through this role, students will gain practical skills and a deeper understanding of the systemic challenges facing marginalized populations. This is an excellent opportunity for those seeking to build a foundation in social work, public health, or community‑based services, while making a lasting and positive impact.
The position is temporary and for 8 weeks.
Job Duties- Provide assistance, support and basic skill training to clients while encouraging independence, self‑responsibility and healthiest lifestyle
- Assist support workers with the intake of clients, provide services of support, assessment, liaising, isolate problems, develop service plans, crisis intervention, and generally ensure that basic needs are met
- Assist with paper work and statistical data
- Other duties as required
Enrollment in a Social Work, Mental Health or Criminal Justice program is preferred
Must have current Occupational First Aid Level 1 Certificate
Must have two doses of COVID 19 Vaccine
Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention Skills Training is an asset
Must pass a satisfactory Criminal Record Check
Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated communication skills both verbal and written
Ability to manage high workload with multiple priorities
Excellent planning and organizational skills
Must be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident (Canada Summer Jobs Requirement)
