Position Summary

This temporary 8‑week position offers hands‑on experience in frontline community work, including case planning, harm reduction strategies, basic wound care, and facilitating therapeutic and recreational activities such as art sessions, bingo, and community cleanups. Students will also be involved in special projects addressing critical issues such as extreme weather response, the opioid crisis, and community outreach.

Through this role, students will gain practical skills and a deeper understanding of systemic challenges faced by marginalized populations. This is an excellent opportunity for those seeking to build a foundation in social work, public health, or community‑based services while making a lasting positive impact.

Job Duties
  • Provide assistance, support and basic skill training to clients while encouraging independence, self‑responsibility and a healthier lifestyle.
  • Assist support workers with client intake, provide support services, assessment, liaison work, problem isolation, develop service plans, crisis intervention, and generally ensure basic needs are met.
  • Assist with paperwork and statistical data.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Enrollment in a Social Work, Mental Health, or Criminal Justice program is preferred.
  • Must have a current Occupational First Aid Level 1 Certificate.
  • Must have received two doses of the COVID‑19 vaccine.
  • Non‑violent Crisis Intervention Skills Training is an asset.
  • Must pass a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to manage a high workload with multiple priorities.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Must be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident.
