CORONER IN - Community Coroner
The BC Coroners Service is a dedicated and diverse team working across British Columbia to investigate sudden, unexpected deaths. The team values transparency, impartiality and community safety, and seeks team members from a wide range of backgrounds.

The Role
As a Community Coroner you will conduct compassionate, trauma‑informed investigations into sudden and unexpected deaths. You will provide critical initial information that supports accurate, timely investigations and collaborate closely with law‑enforcement, medical professionals, and families.

Qualifications

• Completion of an undergraduate degree in a health, legal or social science, plus five (5) years’ experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Five (5) years’ experience working collaboratively with multiple agencies.

• Five (5) years’ experience producing case notes, briefing materials and reports.

• Five (5) years’ experience gathering, synthesizing and evaluating information from diverse sources.

• Five (5) years’ experience communicating sensitively in emotional circumstances.

• Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence.

Preference  (subject to availability of positions and location)

Investigative case management and/or field experience.

Self‑identification as having Indigenous heritage (First Nations, Métis or Inuit).

Residency in the service area specific to the position.

Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence and access to a personal vehicle in good condition for on‑call duties.

Ability to attend scenes on foot, travel in varying weather, and work under challenging environments.

Willingness to work 24/7 during on‑call periods and to provide documentation through head‑to‑toe examinations and photographic evidence.

Capacity to manage sensitive, graphic and confidential information.

Proficiency with computer technologies and data entry into the BCCS database.

Existence of a worker‑safety training and an understanding of medical terminology.

The position is salaried at $49.77 per hour, with a vacation premium in lieu of traditional benefits. It is an “as and when required” role with potential scheduling flexibility.
