Join Aunt Leah’s Employment Program as an Employment Outreach & Support Worker and support young adults facing barriers to employment as they build skills, confidence, and pathways toward meaningful work, education, or training. In this role, you will provide individualized employment readiness coaching, including résumé and cover letter support, interview preparation, and goal setting, while helping participants navigate barriers and connect to training and employment opportunities.

Job Summary

The Employment Outreach & Support Worker supports Aunt Leah’s Employment Program by working directly with young adults facing barriers to employment to build the skills, confidence, and readiness needed to move toward meaningful employment, education, or training.

Reporting to the Resource Centre & Pre‑Employment Lifeskills Program Coordinator, this role provides individualized employment readiness support including goal setting, pre‑employment coaching, résumé and cover letter development, interview preparation, and workplace skill building. The position also facilitates employment‑focused sessions and drop‑in support, and works collaboratively with internal staff and community partners to connect participants with training opportunities and employment‑related resources that support their long‑term goals.

Compensation

$25.17/hr

Position Status

Temporary Part Time (12 months); 15 hours a week (Tuesdays & Thursdays) per operational needs

Qualifications
  • Post‑secondary education in Social Sciences, Social Work, Child & Youth Care, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience in a similar role or related social support, youth engagement, employment support, or coaching environment
Requirements
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Local Police Information Check (including vulnerable sector)
  • MCFD Contracted Agency Caregiver Clearance (or willingness to obtain)
  • Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention training (or willingness to obtain)
  • First Aid Level C with CPR (or willingness to obtain)
  • Agreement to uphold Aunt Leah’s Code of Ethics and Practice Guidelines
Assets
  • Experience in social services, employment counselling, youth engagement, or coaching/mentoring
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License with access to a vehicle and appropriate insurance
  • Experience working in community‑based or non‑profit settings
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusting relationships
  • Trauma‑informed, person‑centered approach to practice
  • Cultural competency and ability to work respectfully with diverse populations
  • Ability to identify and support resolution of employment‑related barriers
  • Knowledge of employment readiness coaching, including résumé and cover letter development, job search strategies, and interview preparation
  • Ability to facilitate mock interviews and provide constructive feedback
  • Ability to support goal setting and individualized employment planning
  • Understanding of workplace expectations, communication, and professional etiquette
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to documentation and reporting accuracy
  • Computer literacy (MS Office and virtual meeting platforms)
  • Ability to collaborate with internal staff and external community partners
Key Responsibilities
  • Build trusting, trauma‑informed relationships with participants to support employment readiness and long‑term goal development
  • Provide individualized employment coaching, including goal setting, career exploration, and action planning
  • Facilitate mock interviews and employment readiness workshops
  • Provide one‑to‑one coaching on communication, workplace etiquette, and professional behaviour
