Our team writes software that controls driverless subway trains in real‑time. We have deployed driverless train control software in dozens of cities worldwide, including London, Hong Kong, Toronto and Vancouver. We work on C++ code that performs real‑time supervision of trains, allowing remote control, monitoring and scheduling of train movements in busy urban environments. Our system moves millions of people every single day and must be reliable and rock‑solid.
We want top programmers who can design software systems for these demanding conditions.
Key Responsibilities Students are initially focused on development tools to support our multi‑site team of 60 developers. Advanced students may contribute to the core C++ engine code that schedules and commands trains.
Required Skills and Experience The successful candidate should be working towards a Computer Science degree or equivalent.
C++, C#, or Java coding skills
Scripting languages such as Ruby, Perl, Python, Groovy
Software building tools like gmake, MSBuild, Maven
Unit testing and continuous integration frameworks
Web development, including Type Script, Web Sockets, Stencil, PixiJS, npm
Source control tools (Git, etc.)
Windows setup and configuration
Exposure to object‑oriented techniques, multithreading, socket programming, Windows
Agile work environments
Working knowledge of modern software engineering practices, methods and tools
Strong technical writing and communication skills
Fluent in English – both written and oral communication skills
Ability to work full time (40 hours) for the agreed work term with a minimum of two days (16 hours) in the Burnaby office
