The Systems Test Engineer 1 uses software engineering principles to plan, test, troubleshoot, and maintain OSI software products. This role designs, develops, and executes test methods to confirm the functionality and integrity of complex systems. The Software Test Engineer is responsible for successfully verifying and validating system requirements and software features. The role works closely with multidisciplinary engineers and stakeholders to deliver software product to end users and customers.

OSI engineers collaborate to develop practical technical solutions, remove roadblocks, and complete testing activities throughout the software lifecycle. Strong communication, interpersonal skills, professionalism, integrity, and ownership are essential.

What will you do?
  • Follow the SDLC, OSI’s ISO 9001-compliant development standards, and documented testing processes and training.
  • Write high-quality test plans, procedures, reports, objectives, and cases for functional, application, regression, and performance testing.
  • Perform formal manual system-level testing, follow test steps exactly, and conduct exploratory testing at the feature, component, and system levels.
  • Create, implement, maintain, and adapt automated and manual tests for routine cases, new products, features, and platforms, encouraging reuse to reduce costs.
  • Participate in peer reviews and maintain test procedures in the version control repository.
  • Troubleshoot, resolve, report, and document test issues; raise defects in bug tracking software to maintain product quality.
  • Investigate and resolve Software Change Requests, System Problem Reports, and customer tickets.
  • Take ownership of work and communicate deadline changes or technical challenges to the Technical Lead or Manager.
  • Maintain safe working knowledge of laboratory equipment and may build small labs of limited size and complexity.
  • Commit to project objectives, schedules, and budgets.
  • Provide technical input and create or review software documentation, including materials from the Technical Publication group.
  • Travel as needed to customer sites and shore installation/testing facilities to support integrated system testing and customer acceptance events.
  • Support high-quality software delivery by prioritizing and correcting usability, safety, and security concerns.
  • Recommend improvements to testing guidelines, tools, and standards, and help develop and roll out related training.
  • Follow workplace operating, environmental, health, and safety procedures and guidelines.
What will you bring?
  • Education:

    Degree or diploma in Computer Science, Software, Electrical or Computer Engineering, Engineering Physics, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Experience:

    0-2 years in a software environment, including required experience testing real-time interfaces to external systems; ISO 9001-compliant software engineering, defense, or aerospace experience is an asset.
  • Technical

    Skills:

    Experience testing software on Windows and Linux is highly desirable; 2D/3D graphics, Python, TCP/IP, UDP, and real-time systems experience are desirable; must learn quickly.
  • Soft Skills:

    Strong verbal and written communication, teamwork, attention to detail, and ability to ask questions, provide technical solutions, learn quickly, work under pressure, take ownership of mistakes, and proactively support new responsibilities and alternatives.

Other:
Must be able to obtain security clearance; knowledge of marine navigation concepts and systems is an asset.
