Forestry - Wildlife Technician at Sierra Pacific Industries
OverviewQualified wildlife interns help manage the company’s forest lands in the Sierra Nevada. Primary species surveyed include the California Spotted Owl and Northern Goshawk. The position offers an excellent opportunity to observe spotted owls from multiple known sites, which the crew documented over 300 last season.
Responsibilities- Support ongoing monitoring of sensitive species
- Participate in forestry and wildlife project work requiring demanding physical activity, night‑time hours, and off‑road driving
- Data entry
- Camp for up to four nights in one week
- College‑level coursework in wildlife biology, forestry, or biological science
- Knowledge of native wildlife species of California forests
- Ability to safely hike and navigate alone in remote, steep mountainous regions using map, compass, and GPS
- Valid driver’s license and ability to drive hazardous mountain roads
- Excellent communication skills
Anderson, Burney, Sonora, and Westwood, California
CompensationHourly wage $19.50–$21.50 plus housing allowance for qualifying individuals.
