What You'll Be Doing

As our Public Engagement Coordinator (PEC), you'll bring The CWGC's heritage to life across the Southwest by delivering inspiring community engagement programmes, school outreach, talks, tours and local events. You'll build strong relationships with schools, community groups and heritage partners, deliver activities at CWGC sites, identify media and promotional opportunities, and represent the work of both CWGC and the CWGF to increase awareness, understanding and support.

You'll also play a key role in motivating and coordinating volunteers, ensuring they have the guidance, training and confidence to deliver high‑quality engagement. Working closely with our operational teams and other internal colleagues, you'll help strengthen public connection to our sites while contributing to the charitable impact that supports their ongoing care.

What You Need To Have
  • Experienced in volunteer management and community engagement, outreach, or a similar public‑facing role.
  • A confident presenter who can inspire audiences of all ages.
  • Skilled at building relationships across diverse communities, including volunteers, schools, heritage organisations and local authorities.
  • Organised, proactive and comfortable managing multiple projects independently.
  • Passionate about heritage, history (particularly WW1 and WW2), and the mission of the CWGC/CWGF.
  • IT‑confident, including use of social media, Word, Excel and databases.
  • Flexible and resilient, able to travel regionally (full UK driving licence required).

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission is an organisation dedicated to honouring and caring for the graves and memorials of service members who died in the two World Wars. The work of the commission is not only out on the field, but in our head office too, which contributes to the meaningful commemoration of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The Commonwealth War Graves Foundation (CWGF) is the charitable arm of the CWGC. The CWGF highlights the work of the CWGC through projects that engage new audiences and find innovative ways to involve the community – through education and outreach, voluntary activity, arts and heritage projects, local research and partnership working.
