The Job:

To support the school in promoting excellent attendance, ensuring pupils are safe, and providing targeted pastoral support. The role combines responsibilities related to attendance with direct work with pupils who may be vulnerable, at risk, or experiencing barriers to learning.

What does this job do?

Encourage parental engagement through 1:1meetingsand small group sessions

Build positive relationships with pupils,parent sand carers.

Support home visits where appropriate inline with safeguarding protocols

Identify patterns of concern and elevate to the Attendance Officer, DSL, or pastoral team

Identify root causes of absence and barriersimpactingeducation

To have Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Develop Early Help Assessments and support access to services that can support children and families

Encourage and reward good attendance through initiatives, assemblies, and mentoring

Act as a key point of contact for pupils with welfare or safeguarding concerns

Report concerns promptly following safeguarding policies and procedures

What are the job requirements?

To support pupils to overcome barriers to learning, promoting the inclusion of all pupils by developing their communication skills, supporting them to manage their behaviour, developing independence and social skills and to take responsibility for monitoring/reporting on the impact of class-based interventions.

To provide pastoral support to students experiencing difficulties on a day-to-day basis

To work as part of the team that responds to challenging behaviour

To provide information,adviceand structured intervention to enable students to make positive choices about their behaviour,attendance and social interactions

To liaise with staff,parent sand relevant outside agencies to provide appropriate intervention for students experiencing disruption to their learning

To liaise with support staff and teachers to share strategies for support

To develop strong links between the school and familiestoimprove educational opportunities for students and to promote a positive attitude towards school

About Coal Clough Academy:

Coal Clough Academy is an 11 - 16 Alternative Provision for young people, many of whom have found it difficult to be successful in a mainstream school.

We are making exciting and positive changes to our school and are very proud of the provision we offer. At Key Stage 3, the focus is on supporting young people to return to a mainstream school. At Key Stage 4, we focus on providing the opportunity for students to gain 5 GCSEs to ensure a successful transition to college, training or employment.

Pupils are taught in small groups, where they study the core curriculum and can receive the extra support they require. Students are then able to make good progress as staff can ensure that learning is tailored to individual student needs. In addition to the core curriculum, we provide rich and varied curriculum opportunities ranging from vocational courses, academic programmes and programmes that support pupils' personal and social development.

Many of the young people who attend Coal Clough Academy arrive here at a difficult period in their lives.
