Low Carbon Energy in partnership with Activ8 Solar Energies & SSE Airtricity are seeking an experienced Solar O&M Service Engineer to join our Commercial team. This is a full-time, permanent position offering a competitive salary, pension, healthcare, and additional benefits.

We are seeking an experienced O&M Service Engineer with a strong electrical background and proven solar O&M experience to support the operation and maintenance of our extensive C&I solar portfolio. This is a hands‑on, field‑based role requiring regular travel and time away from home to ensure optimal performance, availability, and safety of our solar assets. If you cannot commit to working away from home on a near full‑time basis, please do not apply.
Key Responsibilities- Carry out planned maintenance activities in line with O&M schedules and OEM requirements
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on solar PV systems, including panels, inverters, switch gear, combiner boxes, monitoring systems, and all associated parts not itemised or exclusive to ground mount and rooftop installations
- Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical & monitoring faults to minimise downtime and restore system performance and efficiency
- Respond to reactive callouts and fault alarms, including breakdowns and system failures
- Where applicable conduct electrical testing and inspection (e.g. IV curve tracing, insulation resistance, thermal imaging)
- Support commissioning, decommissioning, and warranty activities as required
- Maintain and uphold Low Carbon Energy’s high standards for Quality, Health, Safety & Environment (QHSE) and ensure all work is carried out in compliance with regulation, method statements, and risk assessments, including updating dynamic RAMS where applicable
- Maintain accurate service reports, maintenance records, and fault logs
- Liaise with the O&M manager and operations team to resolve issues on time and as cost effective as possible
- Complete site surveys to aid the sales/design teams with future projects; training will be given where needed
- Complete all required service documentation accurately and on time
- Must be willing to work away from home due to the locations of the asset or issue; if there is any doubt, please do not apply
- Manage any additional sub‑contractors / LCE employees required to complete the task at hand (panel cleaners, etc.)
- Electrical and Solar PV O&M experience is essential
- 18th edition BS7671 & Testing and inspection 2931 qualifications are essential
- Strong understanding of HV, LV and SCADA systems essential
- SSSTS, SMSTS & CSCS card scheme (or equivalent certification) is essential
- IPAF / Harness training is essential or a willingness to carry out along with working at height
- Experience with CDM regulations and the ability to dynamically amend RAMS is preferred but not essential as training will be given
- Drone licence or a willingness to complete
- High level of accuracy in reporting documentation, organisation, time management and self‑motivation
- Experience in a fast‑paced environment involving problem‑solving and communicating with your line manager & manufacturer service helplines
- Excellent written, IT and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels
