Are you an experienced research nurse looking for a change? Or are you looking for an entry post into health research? Is it time for a new challenge in your career?
The role works closely with a wide range of disciplines to support patients’ access to high‑quality research. You will spend some days in clinic supporting patients face‑to‑face and a significant period of office‑based time ensuring accurate data is collected and establishing new NIHR studies within our Trust. Confidence using IT systems is essential, as well as compassion and excellent communication skills, which are paramount.

- Primarily urology and breast studies, with cross cover for all other cancer studies.
- Lung service is an evolving service.
- Support all aspects of a study protocol, with supervision and agreed competencies, and assist the study lead nurse and multidisciplinary team in delivering protocols to time and targets.
- Work independently undertaking nursing care activities and performing interventions within clinical trials specific protocols.
- Collect and manage accurate data, maintain NIHR study set‑up, and support simple and complex drug research studies.
- Identify, recruit and support patients throughout their oncology and research pathway.
- Maintain clinical trials and research studies in line with Nursing and Midwifery Council guidelines and Good Clinical Practice (ICH‑GCP).
- Registered nurse with current NMC registration.
- Proven relevant post‑registration experience in cancer.
- Understanding of the clinical research process is an advantage.
- Flexible, ability to work early starts or late finishes when required.
- Confidence with IT systems.
- Post initially offered at Band 5 to allow training and development, may progress to Band 6 if progress is achieved.
- If relevant past clinical research skills are demonstrated, the post will be offered at Band 6.
- Please note that this is a training post if Band 5.
- Work Monday to Friday within normal clinic hours; flexibility required for early starts (≥8 am) or late finishes (after 5 pm) to accommodate studies.
- Base is negotiable; oncology research offices are based within Burnley and Blackburn.
- Flexibility required for cross‑cover, dependent on patient needs.
- This post is for maternity cover and there is no expectation of continuation beyond 2027.
