About the role

The University of Lancashire is seeking to appoint a Student Counsellor to work within our busy Student Support and Wellbeing team, based at Burnley campus.

Duties will include but are not restricted to managing complex cases and providing therapeutic counselling. You will be expected to work closely with colleagues within the counselling team and with Wellbeing, Mental Health and Safeguarding colleagues and across the service. Utilizing your experience of working in an established counselling service you will demonstrate a good understanding of students from a wide range of demographics and possess a calm and friendly demeanour in this challenging role.

You will be required to support the Counselling Clinical Lead in gathering relevant service information, statistics and reports as required by the Line Manager/Senior Management in Student services.

About you

You will have a recognised Diploma-level Counselling qualification, hold professional registration with an approved body and provide therapeutic counselling of the highest quality, to help individual students engage to the best of their ability within their course of study. Therapy and support will be provided using a solution focused, time limited approach.

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, with appropriate communication and interpersonal skills to deal with a wide variety of issues.

We strongly encourage applications from people with lived experience of the issues and challenges faced by people from different communities. We particularly encourage applications from male candidates, as well as individuals who come from Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities, as we are currently under-represented in this area, although all appointments will be made on merit.

Use of AI in applications

We want to understand your genuine interest in the role and artificial intelligence can be a useful tool to support your application. However, all examples and statements provided must be truthful, factual, accurate and taken directly from your own experience and the written elements of your application should accurately reflect your own communication style. Applications that rely too heavily on AI tools can appear generic and lack the detail we need to assess your skills and experience.

What

we can offer you

We have a fantastic package of rewards and lifestyle benefits – from an attractive annual leave entitlement to access to a comprehensive employee benefits platform which includes a 24/7 online GP.

Our people are our most important asset. We’ll encourage you to make the most of your talents and continually develop your skills and knowledge. As well as realising your career ambitions, you’ll be making a positive difference to other people’s lives.
