Ridges Hospital is looking for a passionate and hardworking Nursing Assistant to join our Orthopedic and Spine unit! Located in Burnsville, just 20 minutes south of Minneapolis, MN, near the 35 E and 35 W conjunctions. This unit is a 26‑bed unit that cares for adult orthopedics, spine, total joint replacements, general surgery, post‑surgical recovery and medical patients.

This position is a .75 FTE, working 60 hours per 2‑week pay period. It involves 12‑hour shifts, with a rotation of every third weekend (Fri, Sat, Sun) and a night shift from 7:00 pm to 7:30 am.

The Nursing Assistant is responsible for assisting the professional nurse/caregiver in the delivery of patient care, transporting patients and/or equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, and the reordering and stocking of supplies. The Nursing Assistant does not work autonomously but works under the direction of a professional nurse. They may be assigned patient care duties based on unit needs and the discretion of the manager/charge nurse.

Provides basic patient care by performing routine duties including:

  • Personal grooming, bathing, toileting, feeding,
  • Skin care needs (clean and sterile dressing changes), applying ointments/creams,
  • Oral hygiene,
  • Specimen collection/testing,
  • Positioning/ambulating,
  • Changing linens,
  • Promptly answering call lights,
  • Assisting the nurse in monitoring patient condition.
  • Accurately taking and recording weights, input/output, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rates, respiration, oxygen saturation.
  • Placing patient on/off monitors or equipment.
  • Reporting unusual findings to the RN in a timely manner.
  • Assisting with admissions, transfers, and discharge of patients.
  • Orienting patients and their families to the environment.
  • Ensuring the patient’s belongings are accounted for, documented upon admission, transfer and discharge.
  • Transporting patients, equipment, specimens and supplies.
  • Ensuring patients get to appointments on time.
  • Using a transfer belt when assisting patients with transfers and/or ambulation.
  • Cleaning, setting up, and maintaining rooms and equipment.
  • Ordering and stocking supplies.
  • Accurately documenting tasks performed on the appropriate form.
  • Performing other tasks as needed.
License/Certification/Registration
  • Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview-sponsored Nursing Assistant program.
  • Six months of recent direct care experience in a long‑term, home care, or acute care setting (including roles such as Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant, or Emergency Room Technician).
  • Current enrollment in an LPN, RN, or Nurse Practitioner program and completion of one semester of clinical rotation within the program.
  • Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire (this requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech or Nursing Station Attendant position).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required. OnTrack participants must be able to obtain BLS for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.
