Nursing Assistant Float Pool

Job Overview

Ridges Hospital is looking for a passionate and hardworking Nursing Assistant to join our Float Pool unit! Located in Burnsville, just 20 minutes south of Minneapolis, MN, near the 35 E and 35 W conjunctions.

This position is a .9 FTE, working 72 hours per 2 week pay period. It works 12-hour shifts, every third weekend rotation (Fri, Sat, Sun), and on the night shift (7pm-7:30am).

The Nursing Assistant is responsible for assisting the professional nurse/caregiver in patient care, transporting patients and/or equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, and reordering and stocking supplies. The Nursing Assistant works under the direction of a professional nurse and may be given patient care assignments based on unit needs and the discretion of the manager/charge nurse.

Provides basic patient care by performing routine duties to include:

• Personal grooming, bathing, toileting, feeding
• Skin care needs (clean and sterile dressing changes), applying ointments/creams
• Oral hygiene
• Specimen collection/testing
• Position/ambulating
• Changing linens
• Promptly answering call lights

Assists the nurse in monitoring patient condition by:

• Accurately recording weights, input/output, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rates, respiration, oxygen saturation
• Placing patient on/off monitors or equipment
• Reporting unusual findings to the RN in a timely manner

Assists with admissions, transfers, and discharge of patients by:

• Orienting patient and their family to the environment
• Ensuring patient belongings are accounted for, documented upon admission, transfer and discharge

Transports patients, equipment, specimens and supplies, ensuring timely appointments and safe transfers using transfer belt.

• Assures patients get to appointments on time
• Uses transfer belt when assisting patients with transfers and/or ambulation

Clears, sets up, and maintains rooms and equipment, and orders and stocks supplies.

• Orders and stocks supplies

Accurately documents tasks performed on appropriate forms and performs other tasks as needed.

• Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview-sponsored Nursing Assistant program
• Six months of recent direct care experience in a long-term, home care or acute care setting (roles may include Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician)
• Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program and completion of one semester of clinical rotation within the program
• Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire; no need to maintain throughout employment and not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech or Nursing Station Attendant position
• Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required;
  OnTrack participants must be able to obtain BLS upon completion of the OnTrack program

An individual's pay rate within the posted range may be determined by various factors, including skills, knowledge, relevant education, experience, and market conditions.
