Tile Setter installs tiles and stone on various surfaces, including floors, walls, and ceilings, using specialized tools and techniques to ensure a durable and aesthetically pleasing finish.
Responsibilities- Installation:
Install tiles and stone (ceramic, porcelain, marble, granite, etc.) on floors, walls, ceilings, and other surfaces. - Surface Preparation:
Prepare surfaces by cleaning, leveling, and smoothing them to ensure proper tile adhesion. - Measuring and Cutting:
Accurately measure and cut tiles to fit specific spaces, including around obstacles and into odd shapes. - Adhesive Application:
Apply mortar, mastic, or other adhesives to the surface and tiles to ensure a secure bond. - Tile Setting:
Position and press tiles into place, ensuring proper alignment, spacing, and even grout lines. - Grouting and Sealing:
Apply grout to fill the spaces between tiles and seal the grout to prevent staining and water damage. - Cleaning and Finishing:
Clean the tiled surfaces and ensure a professional, finished look. - Troubleshooting and Repair:
Identify and address any issues or damage to tiles or grout. - Blueprint Interpretation:
Read and interpret blueprints to determine material requirements and installation procedures. - Material Handling:
Handle and store a variety of tile and stone materials, as well as tools and equipment.
- Physical Stamina:
Tile setting requires physical strength and endurance to lift heavy materials, kneel for extended periods, and perform repetitive tasks. - Attention to Detail:
Precision and accuracy are essential for achieving a professional-looking finish. - Problem-Solving
Skills:
Tile setters must be able to adapt to different situations and find solutions to unexpected problems. - Basic Math
Skills:
Tile setters need to be able to measure, calculate, and estimate materials. - Knowledge of Materials:
Familiarity with different types of tiles, stone, adhesives, and grout is essential. - Tool Proficiency:
Experience using a variety of tile-setting tools, such as wet saws, tile scribes, trowels, and grout floats. - Safety Awareness:
Knowledge of safety procedures and the ability to work safely on construction sites.
- Must have a High School Diploma or GED
- Must be 18 Years of Age
- Valid Driver’s License
- Reliable Transportation
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
