Pathway Coordinator (Medical Secretary)

Job OverviewAn opportunity at the Queen's Hospital Burton within the Department of Medicine for the Elderly for a full‑time Pathway Coordinator/Medical Secretary (37.5 hours/week). The role joins the secretarial team providing efficient and professional medical secretarial services within an established team of clinicians.
The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, motivated team player with excellent communication and problem‑solving skills, high levels of tact and diplomacy, and the ability to prioritise workload effectively.
ResponsibilitiesDaily responsibilities include:
- Typing clinical correspondence
- Appointment scheduling and diary management
- Handling telephone queries
- Performing a wide range of administrative and secretarial duties
- Maintaining a flexible approach to workload and adapting priorities as required
- Previous secretarial or administration experience
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Understanding of the 18‑week RTT process
- Knowledge of the Trust Patient Access Policy
- Familiarity with medical terminology
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Computer proficiency:
Word, Excel, Internet, email systems - NVQ level III Business and Administration or equivalent
- Minute‑taking experience preferred (training can be provided)
- Good standard of English to O level / GCSE equivalent
- Medical secretary experience
- Planning, organising and prioritising own workload and meeting specified deadlines
- IT skills: familiarity with Microsoft Office, advanced keyboard, audio and copy typing
- Training or access to Trust systems such as Lorenzo and T-Pro
- Extensive use of PC and office equipment
