Burton-on-Trent (£42,000 - £48,000 DOE)
Are you a Mechanical Design Engineer with strong Solid Works and sheet metal design experience?
We are supporting an established engineering and manufacturing business in Burton-on-Trent that is looking to strengthen its engineering team with an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer.
This is a hands-on design role where you will be responsible for developing mechanical designs for fabricated equipment, enclosures, frames and associated assemblies, taking projects from initial concept through to manufacture.
The Role- Produce detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies and 2D manufacturing drawings using Solid Works.
- Design sheet metal components, fabricated assemblies, frames, enclosures and structural components.
- Produce designs with consideration for manufacturability, assembly, performance and cost.
- Work with weldments, fabricated components and a range of materials including steel and aluminium.
- Carry out basic engineering calculations relating to areas such as structural loading, airflow and component sizing.
- Produce and maintain Bills of Materials (BoMs) and engineering documentation.
- Work closely with Electrical Engineering and Production teams to ensure effective integration of components and assemblies.
- Support prototype builds, testing and design validation.
- Assist Production with technical and manufacturing queries.
- Identify opportunities to improve existing designs, reduce costs and improve manufacturability.
- Maintain accurate engineering documentation and design files within PDM systems.
- Strong Solid Works experience - essential.
- Experience designing sheet metal components and fabricated assemblies - essential.
- Good understanding of weldments and fabrication/manufacturing processes.
- Experience producing detailed manufacturing drawings.
- An understanding of materials such as steel and aluminium.
- Experience with in an industrial, manufacturing, machinery, equipment or enclosure design environment.
- Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Ideally 3+ years' mechanical design experience.
This would suit a Mechanical Design Engineer who enjoys being close to the manufacturing process and seeing their designs progress from concept through to physical production
