Overview

Wetmore Road Surgery invites part‑time Practice Nurses to join a friendly, supportive team. The role includes visiting housebound patients for annual reviews and working with a multidisciplinary team. Salary will reflect experience and qualifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Shared diagnosis, assessment, and management of patients with long‑term conditions; offer advice and develop individual plans for a healthy lifestyle.
  • Perform and participate in vaccination and immunisation programmes for adults and children.
  • Support and manage the health needs of women for cervical cytology screening.
  • Provide a holistic approach to wound management; implement wound care per evidence‑based guidelines and perform Doppler assessment with ABPI Messi device.
  • Take ECGs, perform urinalysis, blood glucose monitoring and travel health risk assessment & immunisation.
  • Assist in minor surgery steroid injection clinics and IUD insertion.
  • Perform cardio‑pulmonary resuscitation and manage anaphylaxis per UK guidelines.
  • Apply statutory and local child and adult safeguarding procedures and make referral as required.
  • Chaperone patients examined by other clinicians.
  • Liaise with doctors and other primary health‑care professionals regarding patient care.
  • Recognise, assess and refer patients with mental health needs and assist in provision of mental‑health care reviews.
  • Ensure adequate stocking, rotation and disposal of equipment in clinical rooms.
  • Any other delegated duties within own limitations.
  • Demonstrate sensitive communication styles, support patients receiving bad news, and adapt communication to varying levels of understanding and cultural background.
  • Act as an advocate for patients and colleagues; maintain relationships with the primary health‑care team and other agencies.
  • Manage own administrative workload; produce accurate records, obtain informed consent, and deliver care per NICE guidelines.
  • Participate in staff meetings, audit, quality governance systems, and identify changes in clinical practice.
  • Identify personal development needs in partnership with the lead nurse; participate in clinical supervision, training, and continuing education.
  • Support and develop the skills of others; facilitate team working, delegation, referral mechanisms, and workload prioritisation.
  • Ensure confidentiality and data protection compliance.
  • Apply practice policies, standards and guidance on health & safety, infection control, safe specimen handling, sharps management, waste, storage of vaccines and drugs.
  • Promote equality and diversity; identify discrimination patterns and support inclusive culture.
About the Practice

We are a growing surgery of 11 doctors, supported by an experienced team of 2 ANPs, nurses, pharmacy team, outreach team and a large admin team caring for 12,500 patients. We are forward‑thinking, innovative, and encourage teaching and professional development.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Registered General Nurse
  • Post‑registration qualifications in relevant areas (cytology, chronic disease management)
Experience
  • Experience of working in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct
  • Practice Nurse or primary care experience
Special Knowledge
  • Competent in nursing duties required by the post
  • Experience using EMIS Web (clinical computer system)
  • Knowledge of QOF requirements
