Bury Council is seeking two experienced and ambitious Principal Registered Building Inspectors to join our Building Control Service.
This is an exciting opportunity to take a leading role in delivering a high-quality Building Control function, ensuring that development across the borough meets the highest standards of safety, compliance and customer service. Working within a supportive and forward-thinking team, you will oversee complex building projects, provide technical and operational leadership, and help drive service improvement in a rapidly evolving regulatory environment.
Aboutthe Role
As a Principal Registered Building Inspector, you will:
- Manage a diverse caseload of Building Regulation applications, inspections and enforcement matters.
- Undertake complex plan assessments and site inspections across a range of developments, including higher-risk and non-standard buildings where appropriately registered.
- Provide expert advice to developers, architects, contractors, businesses, residents and partner organisations.
- Lead on dangerous structures, emergency response and enforcement activities.
- Support and supervise Registered Building Inspectors and Technical Support Officers, helping to develop skills and expertise across the team.
- Contribute to the management and continuous improvement of the service, including Building Safety Regulator compliance and quality assurance processes.
- Deputise for the Head of Building Control and provide technical or operational leadership as required.
We are looking for enthusiastic professionals with:
- Registration as a Registered Building Inspector at Class 2F as a minimum, with a commitment to achieving or holding Class 3 registration.
- Corporate membership of CABE, RICS or CIOB.
- Significant experience within the building industry and strong technical knowledge of Building Regulations and construction practices.
- Experience of working within a Building Control environment, ideally within local government.
- Excellent communication, organisational and decision-making skills.
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
