The Creative Learning department at Theatre Royal is committed to providing young people across Suffolk with the opportunity to learn from highly experienced Theatre Practitioners, watch performances from some of the leading children’s theatre companies internationally, get on stage and perform and build confidence in a familiar and friendly environment.
We are looking to recruit 2x Trainee Youth Theatre Assistant Leaders (for applicants aged 16-18).
The Trainee Youth Theatre Assistant position is a great opportunity for an individual looking to gain facilitator experience working with a professional theatre Creative Learning team. The applicant will be assisted by the broader team to develop a broad range of skills that will help to support a further career as Youth Theatre Leader, Director or those wanting to work with young people and communities.
In a small and highly achieving Creative Learning Department, the Trainee Youth Theatre Assistant will gain hands-on experience in youth theatre delivery across a diverse programme of work. The Trainee Youth Theatre Assistant will support Youth Theatre Leaders and Assistants in the running of the regular Youth Theatre sessions, supporting the creative process and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the participants.
In this role you will receive bi-monthly mentoring sessions with the Creative Learning team in order for you to grow and learn as an artist and to help you with your career development.
Areas of Responsibility
- To actively assist Youth Theatre sessions and be a positive role model for the members, encouraging confidence
and providing strong support so that they can actively engage in the sessions. You must also keep in line with our
Safe from Harm Policy. - To actively contribute to the preparation of the sessions and provide a sounding board for ideas in termly
meetings. - To act as a note taker for sessions.
- To be an aid to the Leader and Assistant in times of emergency within a session. This may include, keeping the
members of the group focused and on-task whilst the Session Leader deals with an issue. - To be an ambassador for the Youth Theatre and Theatre Royal, actively promoting our work to friends and
contacts and helping to maintain the high standard of the Youth Theatre’s profile and work. - To undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by the management.
