Job Description & How to Apply Below

Want to help shape a major infrastructure project from the very beginning? Are you passionate about engineering excellence and delivering projects that will support the UK's energy future?

If you're ready to play a key role in developing one of the UK's most significant infrastructure programmes and want the opportunity to influence its success from the earliest stages through to delivery, this is your opportunity.

About the Great Grid Upgrade

The Great Grid Upgrade is the largest overhaul of the UK's electricity transmission network in generations. Led by National Grid, the programme involves upgrading and expanding the high-voltage electricity network across England and Wales to transport increasing amounts of renewable energy, improve energy security and support the UK's transition to a low-carbon future.

The West Midlands to East Leicestershire (WEML) Enabling Works project is a key part of this programme, supporting the development of critical infrastructure required to strengthen the UK's electricity transmission network.

Currently in the pre-construction phase, the project team is supporting the client through the Development Consent Order (DCO) approval process, alongside planning, design development and commercial activities to prepare the works for delivery.

With construction planned to commence around 2031, this is a unique opportunity to join the project at the earliest stage of its lifecycle and play a key role in shaping its successful delivery from planning and approvals through to construction completion.

What is the role?

We're looking for an experienced Senior Engineer to join the project team during the pre-construction phase, providing technical leadership and engineering support as we develop this major infrastructure programme.

Working closely with the Project Manager, design teams, client and wider project stakeholders, you'll play a key role in coordinating engineering activities, supporting design development, reviewing technical information and ensuring solutions are safe, buildable and aligned with project requirements.

As the project progresses into delivery, you'll support the implementation of engineering strategies, provide guidance to the wider engineering team and help ensure works are delivered to the highest standards of safety, quality and performance.

This role provides an exciting opportunity to be involved across the full project lifecycle, from early development and approvals through to construction and completion.

What you'll bring
  • Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience working as a Senior Engineer or in a similar engineering role on major infrastructure or civil engineering projects.
  • Experience supporting projects through pre-construction, design development and construction phases.
  • Strong understanding of engineering assurance, temporary works, construction methodology and buildability.
  • Experience reviewing technical information, design outputs, RAMS, ITPs and engineering documentation.
  • Ability to coordinate with designers, clients, subcontractors and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills.
  • A proactive approach with a commitment to delivering safe, high-quality and innovative engineering solutions.
Location

Based from our Birmingham office during the pre-construction phase, with future site-based requirements as the project progresses.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a nationally significant infrastructure project at the start of its journey and play a key role in shaping its successful delivery.
