82753 - Senior OHL Design Engineer
This Senior OHL Engineer will report to the the Design Lead and will work within the Capital Programme directorate based in our Bury St Edmunds office. You will be a permanent employee.
You will attract a salary of £84,160.000 and a bonus of 3%. This role can also offer blended working after probationary period (6 months) - 3 days in the office and 2 remote.

- Produce detailed OHL design packages compliant to required technical industry standards.
- Prepare calculations and technical / equipment specification documentation.
- Accomplish complex assignments requiring the use of advanced techniques, resulting in the development of new or improved processes, equipment, and / or technological methods.
- Undertake a lead role on FEED stage projects, including production of technical reports and presentations.
- Maintain compliance to CDM Regulations and all other legal and regulatory requirements associated with the nature of substation / P&C and electrical system design.
- Take a leadership role with the project team, providing direction and leading by example.
- Manage the delivery of projects observing Management Systems to meet time, quality, and budgetary and health and safety targets.
- Overall OHL design with PLS-CADD in accordance with BS-EN 50341.
- Production and checking of detailed drawing for the OHL design.
- Fulfil the role of Principal Designer for allocated schemes.
- Overall OHL design with PLS-CADD & PLS Tower following BS-EN 50341 and UK Power Networks design standards.
- Produce and checking of detailed drawings for the Overhead Line designs.
- Produce climatic loads observing BS-EN 50341 and BS 6399.
- Analyse overhead line structures with PLS-Tower and PLS-Pole.
- Produce foundation loads and structural reports.
- Design and analysis of Overhead Line Foundations.
- Prepare design technical reports and other written documents.
- Produce design concepts, drawings, specifications and other technical documents.
- The adherence to and control of documents and drawings following company management procedures.
- Design input/output within the designated risk management process.
You will be a qualified Civil or Structural Engineer with overhead line (OHL) design experience and the ability to lead, review and sign off designs to industry and UK Power Networks standards. You will have sound technical, partner management and safety capabilities, with a commitment to continuous professional development and delivering high-quality engineering solutions.
Essential- Degree qualified (BEng/BSc) in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Experience in OHL design and engineering
- Chartered Engineer, or working towards Chartership.
- Knowledge and practical experience of PLS-CADD and Tower.
- Experience producing, reviewing and approving OHL designs and construction drawings.
- Experience with relevant British, European, ENA and utility industry standards, including UK Power Networks requirements.
- Sound knowledge of CDM Regulations and a safety culture (IOSH qualified or equivalent).
- Ability to engage with customers, partners and external engineering organisations.
- Experience using AutoCAD, Micro Station or similar drafting software.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint.
- Experience with business, environmental, financial and regulatory considerations within engineering projects.
- Proven ability to learn new skills, adapt to changing requirements and apply knowledge to new challenges.
