We are committed to the NHS long‑term plan to provide a faster diagnosis for people through the Faster Diagnosis Standard, ensuring that patients are told whether they have cancer or that cancer is excluded within a maximum of 28 days from referral.
About the RoleThe post holder is responsible for providing and coordinating a supportive service for patients, carers, and their families across primary, secondary, and tertiary settings for those who have or fear they may have an upper GI cancer.
Responsibilities- Play a pivotal role in delivering the Faster Diagnosis Standard by assessing rapid access referrals, requesting relevant imaging, procedures and blood tests, and following up on investigations performed.
- Review reports and results, help close the 28‑day pathway, communicate results to the patient and GP, and update databases.
- Deliver autonomous, expert, holistic, evidence‑based clinical care to patients with complex care needs and provide education to patients' carers and staff.
- Act as an expert resource to healthcare professionals and work in close liaison with the multidisciplinary team across all settings, coordinating patient care as necessary.
