Description- The primary functions of the CNC Machinist Set-Up Technician are to set‑up CNC machines with jobs for production in a productive, high‑quality, and safe manner.
- Setting up the CNC machines to obtain an acceptable first piece inspection is the focus of their job.
- Create and edit CNC machine programs.
- Read engineering drawings and lay out tooling and gauges.
- Upload previous job programs and download new ones.
- Install tooling into the CNC machine turret tool positions.
- Touch off tools and update programs with proper tool positions.
- Troubleshoot CNC machine problems as needed.
- Assist and guide CNC operators.
- Inspect parts using visual comparators, calipers, eye loops, and instruments to ensure accurate, quality parts.
- Perform visual inspection for burrs, chattering, chamfer irregularities, hexes, surface finish, etc., confirming with engineering print and first part inspection sample.
- Follow all company safety and environmental policies and procedures.
- Change tools, adjust machine offsets as necessary.
- Communicate problems and suggest solutions.
- Perform the job with minimal supervision.
- Perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.
- Education/
Experience: - 2+ years setting up CNC machines.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Mechanically inclined with experience in machine setups.
- Working knowledge of tools and measuring equipment.
- Basic English communication skills.
- Basic math skills (measuring and calculator usage).
- Ability to use measuring instruments such as calipers, comparators, depth micrometer, surface finish tester.
- Ability to carry out detailed written and verbal instructions.
- Must frequently lift up to 25 lb and occasionally up to 50 lb.
- Regularly required to stand, use hands, reach, walk, and talk.
- Requires close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
- Work with moving mechanical parts, exposed to vibration.
- Machine shop environment with potential slippery floors due to oil and cleaning solutions.
- Moderate noise level typical of a manufacturing plant.
- Work near forklifts and in areas where bar stock is removed from cantilever racks.
