Apprentice System Operator Electric at North Western Energy
Apply for the Apprentice System Operator Electric role at North Western Energy. The program is a full‑time apprenticeship training to prepare you for a career controlling and monitoring the transmission system.
Qualifications- Demonstrate and maintain a good safety record.
- Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
- High school diploma or equivalent (post‑secondary education preferred but not required).
- Personal computer operating experience, including Microsoft Office.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Must successfully pass NERC certification within 36 months or prior to completion of the apprenticeship program.
- Knowledge of electric systems is preferred but not required.
- Get Into Energy – Energy Industry Fundamental 2.0 certification is a plus. Certify at no cost .
- Under supervision, control, schedule and monitor flows within the North Western Energy transmission system.
- Operate and manage the Balancing Authority Area, including transmission tie lines with other utilities.
- Monitor and control North Western Energy assets within the California Independent System Operator’s Energy Imbalance Market.
- Record and report transmission system data.
- Implement real‑time actions that ensure stable and reliable operation of the bulk electric transmission system.
- Make decisions to maintain safe and prudent operation of the electric transmission system and all associated equipment.
- Make quick, accurate decisions under stressful conditions.
- Pay attention to details and communicate effectively to ensure proper operation of the Transmission System and Balancing Authority Area.
- Support twelve‑hour shift work, up to 10 % travel, and call‑outs as required.
- Adhere to company safety standards and the Code of Business Conduct & Ethics.
- Ensure all actions align with North Western Energy’s values, mission and strategic objectives.
Full‑time position. Twelve‑hour shift work required. Up to 10 % travel and call‑outs. Union rate $39.53–$53.52 per hour, depending on experience.
