Probation Program Assistant (02010) – The Iowa Judicial Branch is hiring a Probation Program Assistant to support the youth probation program in Butte, MT. The role includes initial assessments, community service placement, restitution monitoring, educational support, and collaboration with community task forces.
Responsibilities- Perform initial assessment of offenders taken into custody after normal working hours; determine seriousness and contact appropriate individuals if necessary.
- Develop community service work sites, organize and schedule projects for probationers, explain requirements, and maintain records of hours worked.
- Supervise youth during working hours and provide onsite supervision.
- Facilitate or present programs such as alcohol awareness, maintain records and databases of programs presented.
- Recruit, screen, train members of community task forces and identify appropriate subcommittees.
- Initiate contact with victims to determine restitution amount, set up payment schedules, and track amounts owed and paid.
- Track compliance and non‑compliance of dispositions assigned to youth; prepare compliance reports for submission to probation officer or supervisor.
- Provide instruction to youths in a classroom setting, evaluate progress, and prepare educational records required by supervisor.
- Assist probation officer with case plan development, after‑school tutoring, and track progress.
- Maintain database dealing with program and/or financial aspects of the assigned program.
- May provide courtroom testimony and prepare legal documents such as petitions, orders, and summons as assigned.
- Graduation from an approved high or vocational school.
- Approved college‑level coursework in behavioral sciences and experience working with youth preferred.
- Valid Montana driver’s license and proof of insurability if using a personal vehicle on state business.

The position is located in Butte, MT. The majority of work is performed outside the office environment and may involve exposure to violent or non‑compliant youth or family members. The role requires activities such as sitting for long periods, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, climbing stairs, lifting, moving and carrying light to medium objects.
